Protective Melania Trump is keeping her son Barron in a "tight bubble" at Mar-a-Lago to protect him from Donald Trump's turmoil, according to an insider.

Melania has been hiding away at the luxurious private club along with her 18-year-old son Barron as she stays away from the New York courtroom where her husband is on trial over a $130,000 (£104,000) hush payment to the porn star Stormy Daniels. Melania remains at the family's resort in Palm Beach where she goes on long walks to the beach and has fancy spa treatments.

Their youngest son Baron, who is 6ft 7in, has been staying at the home and is set to graduate from Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach on Friday. According to an insider close to the family, Melania has been protecting Barron from the media storm and the pair have taken refuge and formed a "tight bubble".

"He's so regal," one of the insiders told the Mail Online, describing the ex-president's youngest child. "He's a little Melania." But Melania's protective bubble around her son, who turned 18 in March, is beginning to burst as she fights to prevent her ex-President husband's alleged indiscretions from seeping into family life.

Those close to the former First Lady explained that Melania considers the trial to be Donald's problem, and his to deal with. But, they added, she is carefully reading the press coverage of it - including Trump's rant about potentially having to miss Barron's graduation as he was required to be in court.

Stephanie Grisham, one of Melania's former top aides, spent four years enjoying a front row seat to the Trump's daily life. Last month, she told the Daily Mail Melania "wasn't happy" that Trump talked about Barron in the context of the case.

"He talked about missing Barron's graduation to the cameras and then again on Truth social because it caused a lot of coverage about that and it's jut not something she would have liked," explained Ms Grisham. In a bid to show her feelings on the matter she used the same tactic she uses herself with her son - withholding her presence.

Melania has been notably absent from many major events, including the night of Super Tuesday when Trump effectively secured the Republican presidential nomination, with Barron also absent from the huge events. But even during the family's time in the White House, she rarely let Barron attend official events.

When the family rode in the presidential motorcade, Melania would have Barron travel in a separate car, instead of the Beast with hid dad. He would be buckled up in his SUV rather than in the limelight. When it came to travelling on Air Force One she also had Barron use the back stairs of the plane so there wouldn't be pictures of him climbing the front stairs with his parents.

While Melania has always advocated for Barron, ensuring he received the same treatment as Trump's older children from previous marriages, there was one area she worked extra hard to keep him away from - politics. Melania has kept Barron from the limelight and has always been protective of him including the time she renegotiated her prenup just after the 2016 election to ensure Barron would be treated the same as Donald Trump's children from his previous marriages.

She has also wanted Barron to stay away from politics and has put her foot down after the Florida Republican party confirmed the 18-year-old was one of the at-large delegates to the Republican National Convention. After being invited, Barron declined the invitation through his mother's press office.

"While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments," Melania's office said on Friday. Melania, who has avoided her husband's trial in New York, is said to be watching proceedings closely as witnesses commented on their relationship.

"Not showing up in court with her husband and putting her foot down about Barron Trump being a delegate to the Republican convention indicate that she is drawing some clear public boundaries between her husband's political career and her personal family life," Katherine Jellison, a historian at Ohio State University who studies first ladies told the Daily Mail.

"If he was in the Oval Office I'd look in and there were times I could figure out he was on the phone with Mrs. Trump. He would say honey come over to the window [in the residence] and you could see into the Oval Office. He would say come to the window and (they would) wave to each other," Trump's former assistant Madeleine Westerhout said in her testimony.

"I believe they have a relationship of mutual respect. I just found their relationship really special. He cares a lot about her opinion," she added. '"here was no one else who could put him in his place. He was my boss but she was definitely the one in charge."
