AS the bees arrive for summer, there’s a buzz about the powers of honey.

Not just good for spreading on toast, the sticky stuff has a host of other uses.

SWEET AND SOOTHING: Honey is packed with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory goodness and is great at easing the sting of mosquito bites.

Spread it on an itchy lump for instant relief. Steer clear if you’re heading back into the sun, though, as other insects could well be attracted to the sweetness.

FACE FACTS:  Honey is often listed in the ingredients for a homemade face treatment. For a hydrating mask, mix half an avocado with a tablespoon each of natural yoghurt and honey.

Add oats if you want to exfoliate too. Leave on your skin for 15 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water.

RAISE A TOAST: Honey can be a great hangover cure. The Royal Society of Chemistry says it is rich in fructose, a fruit sugar that helps the body process alcohol more quickly. So if you’re feeling the effects of the night before, a slice of toast with honey should sort you out.

YOUR DAILY DROP: A daily dose of honey will boost the body’s supply of antioxidants — essential for protecting against damage.

A great way to start the day is to mix a spoonful of honey with the juice of half a lemon.

Add hot water and drink first thing in the morning. You can also drink this as a natural remedy to soothe your sore throat.

LIP SERVICE: You can use honey to soothe dry, chapped lips. Smooth it on to your mouth like you would any other lip salve and leave it to work its magic — unless you lick it off first.
