A savvy shopper has come up with an innovative way to slow down cashiers in Aldi.

As anyone who visits the supermarket knows, checkout can be an intense affair. Workers on the tills are notoriously speedy when it comes to scanning items. The store previously revealed that staff members are 'encouraged' to be as efficient as possible to keep their prices down. But it can be pretty stressful having items fired in your direction in the bagging area. One customer thinks they have come up with a foolproof way to slow the whole process down. And he took to TikTok to share his technique.

The man named Ciaran explained: "Top tip: spread all your shopping out and it gives you time to bag it so they don't throw it at you." He can be seen leaving large gaps in between each of his items so staff can't scan the items quickly. The video has been viewed more than 90,000 times since being shared on the platform. Lots of viewers loved the idea, as one customer commented: "Need to do that, Aldi cashiers are way too fast."

Another added: "Very good, I'll use this next time." A third commented: "This is the best life hack I've ever seen" while another replied: "Genius." But a number of supermarket workers explained that it just wouldn't work. One commented: "Hahhaa people think this works, we'll just scan faster." Another wrote: "As a Aldi worker you'd get the divider and scoot all the shopping together. Which gives more room for other customers shopping. Winner winner!"

And other people expressed concern for the repercussions on the checkout staff. "Don't do this. I used to work in Sainsbury's and we legit get in trouble if we don't scan quick enough," someone said. Another echoed: "It's all well and good until the cashier gets a disciplinary because their scanning efficiency is below company standards." And a third said: "Please don't. Cashiers there get in trouble if they aren't fast enough. Don't risk their jobs for your convenience."

It comes after one shopper went viral after sharing another savvy Aldi hack. The mum explained how she uses two large plastic tubs with handles to hold her groceries when she visits the store. She wrote: "I know there are the Aldi hanging bags for when we shop but I've been using these tubs for a couple of years now and love them.

"They fit perfectly into the trolley and so easy to get in and out of the car. If they're a bit heavy I just put some of the goodies into the other while putting the first into the boot." The mum also had tips for maximising space in the tubs. "I put the heaviest items in the front tub so that they come out first onto the belt and then I distribute the heavy things evenly into the two tubs after they've been swiped through the register," she explained. "You'll be surprised how much you can fit into them."
