Oleksandr Usyk was spotted ‘kissing a cross’ between rounds of his Tyson Fury undisputed fight.

Usyk beat Fury by split decision to become the first undisputed heavyweight world champion in 25 years in their mega-fight. The Ukrainian was getting beaten up in the early rounds as Fury looked in top form, but the Brit stopped showboating in the second half of the fight when Usyk began to take control.

Fans have now pointed out a key moment after the seventh round when Usyk, a devout Christian, went back to his stool. One of his cornerman presented Usyk with a cross, to which the Ukrainian then kissed it before getting underway with the next round. The moment seemed to breathe new life into Usyk as he hurt Fury in the eighth before almost knocking him out in the ninth round.

Some fans accused Usyk of ‘using an inhaler’ but most were quick to point out that he was instead kissing a cross. “You must have not watched Usyk fight before, he kisses his cross in between rounds,” one user wrote. “Kissing a cross, he went up the gears after this,” a second user wrote. A final comment read: “You can clearly see he was kissing a cross.”

Usyk will be forced to fight Fury again in October as their undisputed clash had a two-way rematch clause regardless of the result. The Ukrainian broke down in tears after the fight whilst speaking about his father, who passed away just days after Usyk won gold at the 2012 London Olympics. “I miss my father," Usyk said. "I said to my father ‘Hey, listen. You live there, I live here.’

“Please, no coming for me. I love you. For me it’s hard when my father is coming for me because I remember all my life, I know he’s here." The Ukrainian wasn’t keen on talking about his rematch against Fury having spent nine months in training camp preparing for their fight. "My start was October 2023, November, December. Nine months I work,” he said.

“I missed New Year. I missed the birthday of my son, I missed the birthday of my other son. I missed the birthday of my daughter, I missed the birth of my daughter. I missed all of my family holidays, all the time training. My focus was only this fight, now I'm happy. I want to go back home," he said.
