Netflix documentary 'Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones' has sparked interest in the regions around the world where an unusually high number of people live to be 100 or older.

Many are now wondering how they can emulate this longevity. The answer lies in diet - those living in these areas primarily consume locally sourced natural foods, with a heavy emphasis on fruits and vegetables. Oranges, for instance, are a common part of the diet in places like Ikaria, Greece, and Sardinia in Italy. Drawing from the longevity of these Blue Zones residents, dietitian Dr Carrie Ruxton suggests that drinking a glass of 100 per cent orange juice daily not only promotes skin health through its vitamin C content but also contributes to a healthier, longer life.

Dr Ruxton pointed out that a recent survey showed nearly half of Brits (48 per cent) were unaware of the antioxidant benefits of 100 per cent orange juice, which include supporting the skin's anti-ageing process. With just one small glass providing over 90 per cent of our daily vitamin C needs, orange juice is a crucial component in maintaining youthful skin.

The vitamin C in fruit juice serves as a natural shield against harmful sun rays and is a key ingredient used by the body to produce collagen, which gives skin its youthful plumpness. But the advantages of orange juice go beyond just skin deep, reports Bristol Live.

Dr Ruxton highlighted the benefits of a simple glass of orange juice, saying: "A glass of orange juice is an easy and inexpensive step towards supporting a healthy heart and helping the immune system to function well. The high levels of vitamin C found naturally in fruit juice help the immune system to combat symptoms of common colds and illness and support normal skin health, while folate a B vitamin in orange juice - helps reduce tiredness and fatigue. Not only this, polyphenols such as hesperidin, found in citrus fruits and their juices, help promote normal blood vessel function and reduce inflammation which combines to support a healthy heart."

Additionally, orange juice is packed with potassium, crucial for keeping blood pressure in check.
