A TEACHER has left people in hysterics after revealing the hilarious comments her students made about her work outfit.

Elspeth Todd thought she looked extremely professional when she came to work one morning wearing a long black coat, comfortable looking black boots and a white jumper.

In her hair, she wore a white headband, which perfectly matched the jumper.

However, as soon as the Liverpool Institute For Performing Arts graduate reached her classroom, she realised her mistake.

Taking to TikTok, she revealed: "I walked into school today, and the first thing the kids said to me is 'didn't realise you were performing in Sister Act today miss'".

Sister Act is a popular musical, starring Whoopi Goldberg, where a woman goes to hide out in a convent after watching her husband commit murder.

Therefore, the children were comparing her outfit to that of a nun's habit, which consists of a long black tunic, and a black and white headpiece.

"So much for being top tier with my outfits as a teacher", she said.

Elspeth seems to have taken the comparison to a nun in good spirits and has since shared another video of her in a checkered shirt with the caption: "Me walking into school today knowing full well I'm going to get the statement 'miss didn't realise you were out chopping wood in the forest today'".

In a third video, she wore black and white checkered trousers, joking that she can't wait for the kids to address her as "chef".

Elspeth's video, which was posted under the username @_elspxth, has gone viral, racking up 191,000 views on the video sharing platform.

TikTok users raced to the comments section to share their thoughts, with many in stitches over the comparison.

One person said: "I would have burst out in song for them".

Another person, referencing the name of Whoopi's character in the film said: "Get it sister Mary Clarence".

A third said: "For a non-uniform day I once wore dungarees with a muted yellow jumper.

"I was called a minion by almost every class."

A fourth added: "I won’t lie, I did think you were in full habit and everything for a few seconds".

A fifth said: "One of my students once asked why I was still in my pyjamas".
