Full-back Kieran Trippier, 33, was given pickle juice when cramping up in the latter stages of Sunday’s 1-0 win over Serbia in Gelsenkirchen.

That was in addition to also having a high-carb drink referred to as a “fuel bomb”.

Pickle juice is regularly used in tennis and contains sodium, potassium and vinegar.

When consumed, a reflex in the mouth is sparked, sending a signal to stop muscles from cramping.

It also improves gut health with antioxidants and helps control blood sugar levels.

It is also said to be great for fresh-smelling breath due to it killing bacteria which reproduces in the mouth.

And it is not a brand new remedy discovered before Euro 2024.

Way back in 2019, eagle-eyed football fans spotted then Arsenal ace Lucas Torreira gulping down some pickle juice.

He was not the first high-profile sports star who used the pungent fluid.

Just weeks before that, unseeded American tennis player Frances Tiafoe revealed pickle juice helped him overcome Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov in the last 16 of the Australian Open.

Rising Russian tennis pro Daniil Medvedev also opted for the salty drink during a break in play in his match against Novak Djokovic.
