Hungarian striker Martin Adam has given a five-word response to internet memes circulating following his appearance at Euro 2024.

The 29-year-old number nine - who crafts his trade at South Korea's Ulsan HD - was on the receiving end of relentless mickey-taking when he made an appearance as a 79th minute substitute during his country's Euro 2024 opener against Switzerland on Saturday, due to his size and stature. At 6ft'3 and 87KG according to media reports, some noted that the poacher is an 'absolute unit', while others cruelly joked that he's 'hungry for goals'.

Since his Euro 2024 appearance, Adam has spoke about his social media grilling, issuing a five-word response to those mocking his appearance. He said: "Of course one or two get back to me, usually I have a good laugh," before adding a pointed five-word response: "I was born like this," he said.

He continued: "This is my body shape. I can't say I was this size when I was born, I can't change that, I can't change genetics. So yeah, that's all I can say about it." Hungary lost their opening game of the tournament against Switzerland at the weekend 3-1, with Kwadwo Duah opening the scoring in the 12th minute.

Michel Aebischer doubled Switzerland's lead on the 45th, before Barnabas Varga gave Hungary a glimmer of hope with 66 minutes on the clock. A last-minute goal from Breel Embolo would send the Hungarians back to camp empty handed. Hungary face Germany next at the MHPArena on Wednesday, with their tournament-hosting opponents sitting comfortably top of Group A after a 5-1 thrashing of a ten-man Scotland in the opening game of the competition.

Adam rose through the youth ranks of Vasas SC in 2012, before spending seven years with the side. He netted 27 times in 139 appearances for the club before moving onto Kaposvar in 2019. He would join Paks the following year, before signing for Ulsan HD in 2022, where he currently has 17 goals in 54 appearances.
