A flight attendant has issued a warning to passengers after one common mistake keeps cropping up on her flights.

Popular vlogger Jetting Julia has flown around the world as a member of the cabin crew. But it was a recent trip across the United States that prompted her to issue the warning after a passenger fell ill on board the flight.

Julia said the man started to say he was "freezing cold" and was "visibly shaking" before take-off. He was assessed by a doctor on the plane and paramedics were called and a decision was made to not let the man fly that day.

He then told crew members he hadn’t eaten anything on the day of his flight – a mistake many travellers make. She said: “It is really important to eat and drink on the days that you are travelling.

“It’s important to not fly on a completely empty stomach and to have a lot of fluids in your system just because when you’re flying you can get dehydrated.”

According to London Gatwick Airport, flying can often make people feel dehydrated. It advises: “Air travel can make you dehydrated due to the pressurised nature of the cabins, so be sure to always drink plenty of water and fruit juice. Also avoid alcohol, fizzy drinks or drinks containing caffeine.”

Turkish Airlines meanwhile says passengers should have at least one meal that contains seasonal fruits and vegetables ahead of longer flights due to bloating caused by the changes in cabin pressure. It says: “On long-haul flights, changes in cabin pressure during take-off and landing can lead to health problems.

“Air pressure in the cabin is lower than at sea level. As cabin pressure falls while flying, gas starts to expand. As a result, you may feel pressure in your stomach or digestive system. “
