There is a tiny island off the coast of the UK that has become the backdrop for the Game of Thrones prequel.

Wales has been transformed into Westeros for the second series of House of the Dragon set nearly 200 years before the original series.

Last year, filming crews descended on Wales for a five-week stint, after which the show's executive producer Kevin de la Noy couldn't contain his excitement about shooting in the country. He said: "It was great to be shooting in Wales with its stunning scenery and landscapes, that bring to life our Westeros.

"I had no hesitation in taking House of the Dragon there... and we were blessed with the most glorious weather too. Thank you, Wales!"

One location that played a pivotal role in filming was the island of Anglesey, nestled off the northwest coast of the mainland.

With only one episode of the new series having aired so far, some scenes filmed on the island are yet to be unveiled, but last year, actor Steve Toussaint, who portrays Corlys Velaryon, was spotted filming a scene in the village of Penmon.

And some sharp-eyed walkers later noticed an army donning the golden-dragon sigil of Aegon II Targaryen filming in Beaumaris.

Meanwhile, others caught sight of filming on Llanddwyn Beach, rumoured to be the setting for the 'Sowing of the Dragonseeds', where descendants of the Targaryens will attempt to claim dragons. These events will unfold in a future episode of the show.

Anglesey's Porth y Cwch was chosen as the backdrop for a particularly emotional scene where Lucerys Velaryon's body washes up on Shipbreaker Bay, following his demise at the end of the previous season.

Anglesey's coastline, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasts sandy beaches on the east coast and sharp cliffs with small bays on the north.

The island's natural beauty makes it an ideal filming location and a fantastic destination for day trips or short stays.

Historical sites such as Beaumaris Castle, the Dingle Nature Reserve, and Plas Newydd House and Gardens are among the attractions on the island.

With its numerous beaches and coastal walks, Anglesey is a perfect destination for families and solo travellers alike - plus, you might spot some familiar locations from your favourite show.
