Limescale can be a nightmare to remove, even if you've invested in a bunch of fancy cleaning sprays.

Caused by mineral deposits in hard water, limescale can quickly create a chalky build-up that tarnishes your sink, kettle, shower, and taps. While this isn't harmful to your health, there's no denying limescale looks pretty grim - and can also shorten your appliance's lifespan and efficiency.

Products promising to melt away stubborn limescale can be pretty pricey, with some cleaners - like this HG limescale remover from Tesco - setting you back £4.50 for just one bottle. However, there is a much cheaper alternative that works just as well...

Taking to TikTok, travel influencer Lou Lou took some time away from jet setting to tackle her limescale-ridden sink. Known as Lou Lou Explores online, the content creator lives in a hardwater area and noticed her steel drying board had become clouded with stubborn limescale.

"So I've got some spirit vinegar or white vinegar whatever and we're gonna literally just lay down some," she said, pouring white vinegar onto the sink. Lou Lou then places several pieces of kitchen roll onto the affected area and presses them down.

"The reason we do it like this is because if you just pour white vinegar on the side it can't soak," she added. "It would evaporate really quickly." After nine minutes, Lou Lou peels the sodden kitchen roll off the sink and uses a soft sponge to wipe off the remaining vinegar. "Are you crazy? Are you mad. Are you seeing this? Look at that," she adds, showing off her sparkling sink.

Cleaning enthusiasts flocked to the comments section to applaud the hack - with many sharing it with their friends and family. "Not to be dramatic but this is life-changing!" one user raved. Another added: "Wooooow. I'm trying this tomorrow."

You can pick up a bottle of white vinegar from most supermarkets and online retailers. A litre of the natural cleaner from Morrisons will only set you back 99p. If you're in need of some kitchen towel, the supermarket is currently selling a jumbo-sized roll for £1.19, price matches with Aldi and Lidl.
