Armed police are carrying out a raid tonight following a 'night of violence' in the neighbourhood in the early hours of this morning.

They carried out a search at an address in Stoke-on-Trent this evening after reports of 'robberies' in the Normacot and Dresden area at around 4am. It is not yet known whether this is linked to this evening's search.

Multiple marked and unmarked police cars earlier arrived at the scene and Staffordshire Police say they are expected to remain late into the evening. Eye-witnesses told StokeOnTrentLive that 'two or three people' have been arrested.

A force spokesman said: "We’re currently carrying out a search warrant at an address in Stoke-on-Trent. Officers are in the process of searching a house on Chaplin Road in Longton this afternoon (Wednesday 19 June). A police presence is expected to remain in the area whilst we continue to investigate and reassure local residents."

Regarding this evening's raid, one woman said: "The street is packed, everyone is out of their houses trying to find out what's going on. There were raids by armed police on two houses and either two or three people have been arrested. The police are carrying guns and they have dogs with them too."
