The royal rumour mill has been in overdrive recently speculating on the potential plans for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to source a UK dwelling, with many believing this was down to Harry's burgeoning desire to secure a more permanent UK residence.
Contrary to this increased speculation, however, one royal insider has lifted the lid on the couple’s plans, claiming they have 'no intention' of looking for a new real estate residence across the pond.
The couple has been without a UK base since vacating Frogmore Cottage – the five-bedroom home near Windsor Castle that they moved into following their 2018 wedding – in the summer of last year, after relocating to the US in 2020. Asked to leave the property as they were no longer working royals, many have been waiting for an announcement on their UK plans, however, according to one royal insider, the plan is to stay firmly put.

Vanity Fair’s Erin Vanderhoof said: “Despite rumours that Harry’s ongoing legal battle over his security arrangement is a sign that he is interested in a more permanent spot in the country – where he and Meghan both have charitable ties – Vanity Fair can report that the prince is not looking for property in the UK.”
Meghan Markle 'to unleash her own memoirs' as Prince Harry's drops next weekSpeculation was sparked following comments suggesting the Southern California lifestyle might be grating on Harry somewhat. Expert Tom Quinn said: “He misses his old Etonian and army friends, many of whom have not visited, as they don’t get on with Meghan.”
He continued: “Harry is determined to find his own permanent home in the UK, which is partly why he’s continuing his legal action to get the British taxpayer to pay for his security.”
Earlier this month Harry won the right to continue his fight for enhanced security protection when he visits the UK, with lawyers for the prince arguing that the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures should never have downgraded his publicly funded UK security after stepping back from his royal role in 2020.
Since the beginning of the year, Harry has been back to his home country numerous times, including meeting with King Charles following his cancer diagnosis. On another recent visit, it was reported that he stayed in a hotel rather than in a palace apartment, further prompting the speculation that he may need a more permanent fixture in the UK in the future.
Harry recently listed the US as his permanent place of residence in official paperwork and backdated it to June 29, 2023, when he and Meghan moved out of Frogmore. The home was given as a wedding gift to Meghan and Harry by the late queen, but after King Charles III ascended the throne, he asked that the couple vacate the property.
While the property, named after the abundance of frogs in the area, currently remains vacant, opening up for festive events, recent reports have suggested that King Charles is pressuring Prince Andrew to move out of Royal Lodge and relocate to the Windsor-based property, however nothing has yet been confirmed.
