A town described as "one of the least explored" destinations in the Cotswolds is home to a number of family-friendly attractions - including a fairytale theme park that allows guests to imagine they're in a real-life enchanted forest.
Chipping Norton is unique compared to its better-known neighbouring towns and is nestled just beyond the tourist hotspots of Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold, which you have to drive through to get to. Although it has received media attention recently for being the location of Jeremy's Clarksons farm, there is much more to the pretty market town that remains undiscovered to many.
One of Chipping Norton's many gems is the Chippy Lido, which although originally built in the 1970s, underwent a huge renovation project recently, boasting a 25-metre pool, café and tree-lined lawn. Describing itself as an "oasis of calm in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds", one Tripadvisor review about the pool from May 2024 reads: "Amazing pool, lovely staff and good cafe. It was warm in the pool but a bit chilly out of the pool on the day we visited but the delicious hot chocolate warmed us up afterwards."
Perhaps the most unique of Chipping Norton's array of family-friendly things to do is the Fairytale Farm found on the outskirts of the town. It's an attraction where children can interact with animals, run around adventure playgrounds and enjoy a multi-sensory experience full of colour and whimsy. Its latest instalment, called Fairytale Dell, is a magical play area featuring huge, 20-foot toadstools, interactive games and activities and bridges and tunnels to explore. It is described as a "wonderland for children under 10", reports GloucestershireLive.
One review on Tripadvisor who visited in June 2024 wrote: "We had the most fantastic whole day here recently. There were so many activities and experiences to share and something for everyone. The staff were amazing. There were crafts, a sandpit, a unicorn ride, duck racing, a skittle game, feeding and petting some of the animals, adventure play areas and lots of sensory experiences. We didn't want to leave and will definitely be going again soon. Well done Fairytale Farm. Thank you."
Alton Towers conference centre evacuated as worker reports 'unusual smell'Just outside of Chipping Norton, you can find the Rollright Stones, a circular stone structure dating back over thousands of years to some point between the the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. The entry charge is £1 for adults and 50p for children aged 7-16, according to the Rollright Trust which looks after the site. The Town itself is full of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops, as well as a small museum. Cotswolds Tourism Board describes Chipping Norton as "probably one of the least explored and commercialised areas of the Cotswolds".
