Prince William enjoyed a pre-birthday treat when he watched England take on Denmark at Euros 2024.

The Prince of Wales, who is president of the Football Association, watched as the Three Lions mustered a disappointing 1-1 draw against the Danes. But despite the less-than-ideal result, William did have the opportunity to catch up with an old pal. Before the match, he was seen chatting intently with King Frederik of Denmark, who had also travelled to Germany to support his nation, along with his younger daughter Princess Josephine.

The royals seemed to enjoy a jolly catch-up, which was caught on camera and later posed for a photo together that appeared on both William and wife Kate's official Instagram account as well as that of the Danish Royal Family.

And according to a lip reader Nicola Hickling, it seems that William and Frederik were making plans for after the match. She claimed that Fred said to Wills: "Do you drink Heineken? After the game, we should have one." And she believes the Prince of Wales then told the Danish King: "Yeah."

William's trip to the Euros came just hours before his birthday when his wife Kate took to social media to send him a highly personal message. Kate said: "Happy birthday Papa, we all love you so much! Cx" in a post on social media on Friday morning.

A photo of William and their three children jumping in the air and holding hands, taken by Kate last month in Norfolk, was posted alongside the message. The photo came days after Kate, who revealed her cancer diagnosis earlier this year, returned briefly to the public limelight at Trooping the Colour last weekend with William and their three children.

But in a personal message, the princess revealed that although she is making good progress, she is "not out of the woods yet". Kate told how she has good days and bad days and is facing a few more months of chemotherapy. She first announced she was undergoing cancer treatment in a video message in March.

Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales was born at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, at 9.03pm on June 21, 1982. He weighed 7lb 1.5oz and was the first-born son of the King and Diana, Princess of Wales.

Since his last birthday, William has launched Homewards, his five-year drive to eradicate homelessness in six locations around the UK. His other key focuses include raising mental health awareness, and the Earthshot Prize, his £50 million environmental competition to find solutions to help the planet.
