Police investigating the horrific discovery of a smouldering torso at a Spanish beauty spot have now found the victim's dismembered head, arms and legs.
Forensic experts have also determined that the burnt body is that of a woman - not a man as they first suspected. The initial horrifying find was made on Monday in the La Serreta area of Fontcalent in the coastal Spanish city of Alicante. The victim had been beheaded, their limbs severed and they had also been set alight.
Now following the latest grisly discovery, experts are now trying to identity the victim and find out how she came to such a gruesome end. The torso, which had been set on fire, was found by a man out running in the countryside at the tourist hot-spot last week.
The jogger immediately called the emergency services and police from the Violent Crime Group and Aerial Media Unit then searched the scene, using a drone and dogs to try and find the rest of the body. A suitcase was found nearby but no trace of the limbs or the person's head.
Police also contacted local tips as they feared the head and missing limbs might have been thrown away with the rubbish. Five days later, another resident was shocked to find the head, arms and legs nearby. They too had been burnt, reports state. All the human remains of the dismembered person are now at the Alicante Institute of Legal Medicine, where an autopsy will be performed.
Body of boy, 5, missing for three months recovered from fast-flowing riverIdentification will only be possible through DNA given the state of the remains and the National Police will review reports of missing persons in order to find some clue. Originally, police thought the body was that of a man and thought the death could be related to some kind of score settling, possibly drugs, a theory now said to be in doubt.
The shocking find comes as multiple people were killed in another Spanish tourism hotspot after a bar collapsed. Multiple fatalities have been reported in a popular Mallorcan resort. The nationalities of the deceased were confirmed by police after the first-floor terrace of the Medusa Beach Club tragically caved in.
Spanish authorities revealed that two German women, aged 20 and 30, sadly lost their lives, along with a 33-year-old Spanish woman who was employed at the club. Authorities also confirmed the death of a 44-year-old Senegalese man in the incident.
He has been identified locally as Abdoulaye Diop, who worked as a nightclub doorman. Palma de Mallorca Mayor Jaime Martinez suggested to reporters that the tragedy on Thursday may have been caused by excess weight on the terrace.
Video footage obtained by The Mirror depicts the massive clean-up operation currently underway. Some workers can be seen clearing the dirt and debris left by the tragedy as police commence their investigation into the cause of the collapse.
