Women have been left 'shocked and confused' after a man's explanation of urinal etiquette to his missus took the internet by storm.

For those accustomed to sitting down for their bathroom breaks, the world of urinals remains an enigma. But one man has taken it upon himself to demystify the protocol of the urinals for his partner, complete with a comprehensive set of rules for the stand-up affair.

In a chat with his other half Courtney, social media influencer Alex Quist sketched out five urinals and posed the question: "Only three stalls can be chosen. Do you know which three?". A hesitant Courtney guessed that the correct picks would be the left, middle, and right ones, prompting Alex to confirm: "That's right, these are the only three stalls you can take if you're one of the first people in there. You don't want to be shoulder to shoulder with anybody. You always choose the end ones."

But it seems urinal etiquette gets even more strict and confusing than that. Take, for instance, when someone "breaks the rule" by opting for the spot between the end and the middle one, despite the rest being free. Then, the next person must select the most distant one available - but this messes the whole system up.

Alex then laid down the "main rule" - never engage in chit-chat with anyone at a urinal. "You look at the wall, and you take care of your business," he instructed.

A puzzled Courtney then queried what the protocol would be if four people needed to use the facilities. In this scenario, Alex clarified that if the three appropriate urinals are occupied, you're faced with a choice: either "suck it up" and stand "shoulder to shoulder" with another person or, regrettably, opt for a stall. However, one particular 'rule' about urinal etiquette left Courtney utterly perplexed.

Her husband's advice was that when using a stall, it's "always good practice to keep the stall open while you pee" to make it feel more like a urinal experience.

Courtney was naturally baffled by this so-called 'rule', which she deemed ' weird'. Yet, according to Alex, there's no need to close it "you don't need to if you're standing up". It seems Courtney wasn't alone in her confusion over these toilet tactics.

One woman expressed her astonishment online, saying, "That stall one is wild," Another demanded further clarification: "WAIT I needed more of an explanation to leaving the STALL DOOR OPEN???".

Others were equally puzzled, with one asking" "There are urinal rules??" and another simply finding the whole thing "So fascinating." But there were those who backed Alex's claims, with one individual stating: "I'm a plumber. These are the rules."

Someone else confirmed: "My boyfriend just verified ALL of this. I am shocked and confused."

Another person shared their partner's endorsement: "My husband said 'this is 100% factual'". However, consensus wasn't universal; one commenter diverged at the stall door suggestion: "I was nodding my head saying mhm to everything until bro said open the stall."
