A music fan is to pay homage to BBC News' Maryam Moshiri when he heads to Glastonbury Festival later this week.

Newsreader Maryam was hilariously caught giving the middle finger to the camera last December, unaware she was being broadcasted to the nation. After suddenly realising she was on air, she pulled her hand away, made a serious face and began reading her bulletin - footage of which instantly went viral on social media.

Now, Rich Wolfenden, who works on the Beeb's Final Score programme, has poked fun at his colleague as he prepares to travel to Somerset ahead of proceedings kicking off tomorrow (June 26). "Important Glastonbury prep is underway," he penned on X (formerly Twitter) alongside a snap of a huge flag capturing Maryam's faux pas.

"This isn't real, surely?" asked Maryam in response to the post. But Rich clarified: "We'll have you front and centre for Coldplay, Maryam. Don't you worry."

Scores of X users "Excellent work!", penned one person. "We’ll be on the lookout for this one." Another agreed: "This is brilliant -I've laughed so much I had to rewind 45 seconds of The Rest is Politics - superb banter."

A third hailed: "Ratings will surely go through the roof with people looking for this." And a fourth praised: "Genius!! Will be looking out for this in the Glasto crowd #iconic."

However, one fellow attendee didn't see the funny side at all. "Large flags spoil the view for most of the audience and BBC coverage," he moaned. "It’s the main reason we tend to avoid the headliners when we are there. Surely the acts are more important than getting your flag on the telly."

It prompted Rich to quip in response: "Its not to try and get on telly mate. Its a point of reference for our group meeting up."

Explaining her bluder at the time, meanwhile, unfortunate Maryan said on X "Hey everyone, yesterday just before the top of the hour I was joking around a bit with the team in the gallery. I was pretending to count down as the director was counting me down from 10-0.. including the fingers to show the number. So from 10 fingers held up to one. When we got to 1 I turned finger around as a joke and did not realise that this would be caught on camera.

"It was a private joke with the team and I’m so sorry it went out on air! It was not my intention for this to happen and I’m sorry if I offended or upset anyone. I wasn’t ‘ flipping the bird’ at viewers or even a person really. It was a silly joke that was meant for a small number of my mates."
