SPANISH cops have questioned locals over claims missing Brit Jay Slater was seen watching the Euros.

The 19-year-old's distraught family slammed trolls sending "vile" death hoaxes and hacking social media accounts as the probe intensified today.

Jay, 19, vanished without a trace in Tenerife last week, baffling search crews as they scoured the landscape for clues.

A shocking new development then came to light as Mayor Emilio Jose Navarro said local cops received reports about Jay watching the tournament "on the coast".

He said local police interviewed people that could have seen him, according to MailOnline.

The mayor added: "Some people think he may have been in the coastal area of the municipality, they saw him celebrating in a bar over the days they have been Euro cup matches."

The judicial police are investigating the city hall security cameras, which, Navarro said, are more for tourism purposes than security.

He continued: "They are working also with the company that handles those cameras, it's the Guardia Civil that is handling that."

Jay was staying at a Tenerife Airbnb where he partied before he went missing.

Investigator Mark William Thomas gave a description of the two “key witnesses” who last saw Jay at their cottage.

He spoke to the owner of the rental property and a number of witnesses; including Jay’s friends, who gave him information.

Both of the men are black, in their 30s or early 40s, and were not at the NRG festival, Mark said.

He threatened to release an image of one of the men if they did not come forward.

The witnesses were seen speaking with the teenager outside the Papagayo nightclub last Monday morning, before driving him back to their accommodation, Mark said.

One of the men was described as around 6ft tall, quite stocky, with short dark hair. He wore an orange wristband and drank Hennessy cognac.

Mark explained how the men were "not assisting" and that the family were "desperate" for them to come forward as witnesses.

He said the group sat outside a club after the night ended and that witnesses claim Jay seemed "quite in control of himself."

“What we don’t know is why he went with them,” Mark added.

The two men were reportedly hanging around the bars in the strip area for two days and mixed with Jay and his pals.

He said: “When Jay got back to their place he made a number of phone calls to friends and was jovial and upbeat.

“There is a drugs fraternity here [in Tenerife], I can’t say if it has an influence but it is obvious to see."

Mark then described how Jay's family are "united" but "utterly broken" and are experiencing online abuse.

He said: “There are people who have phoned up saying they have jay hostage. Others hacked social media and attacked the family. It is vile.
“These claims have been given to police.

“Jay has his past but the family need some sort of respect. To those on social media, think before you post. If you wouldn’t say it to your family don't say it to Jay’s.”

The teen's parents have spoken directly to the press, with his dad describing being in a "living hell" and his mum saying she's "barely slept" since he disappeared.

Debbie said: "It's been a week now and it's been awful. I've barely slept and I'm at my wits' end.

"The Spanish police are doing a good job and we are getting updated from the consulate so we just put our faith in them."
