A frantic search is in progress for an American tourist who disappeared in Spain after travelling to Barcelona to attend the Pride festival.

Ryan Anthony, 31, was holidaying with friends in Barcelona when they decided to travel to the Spanish coast to join in the Pride festival in the town of Sitges.

However, according to concerned family members, their last communication with Ryan was when he got in touch to say he was on his way to the festival.

Kayli Anthony Willis, Anthony's sister, posted on social media: "The last message he sent me he was in Sitges for Pride festival with some friends. It is not like him to not check in with any of his family, and all our calls and texts are not delivering."

She included two snaps of him which showed him with four other blokes at a beach. When Kayli messaged two of the lads in the picture neither responded, she said, reports the Mirror US.

'We have filed a report with the US embassy in Barcelona and also here in the United States, " Kayli wrote. "If anyone has come in contact recently or knows where he is, PLEASE message me or notify the US embassy. We would like to know he's safe and alive.

Thank you. "According to Kayli, one of the blokes in the picture posted on social media last week. However, there haven't been any leads or updates on her brother's whereabouts. His credit cards seem to have gone unused, she was informed by the police. '"Please keeps sharing and keep him in your thoughts," she posted on Facebook.

The mystery deepens as 59-year-old former police officer Albert Calibet remains unaccounted for in Greece after setting off on a solo hike on the Greek island of Amorgos.

Greek media reports that the retired police officer left from the port settlement of Aegiali, situated on the northwest of the island, just after 7am last Tuesday.

It's thought he was heading towards Katapola, the island's main port located on the western side. The journey should typically take around four hours from his starting point, but when he didn't return after double that time, a concerned friend raised the alarm.

A search operation began on Tuesday afternoon with additional backup called in from the nearby Naxos island. Police have also requested data from mobile service providers in an effort to trace the man's last known location.

Attempts to contact Calibet via either of his two mobile phones have so far been unsuccessful. According to local news outlets, the last communication he sent was a photo of a trail sign to his sister. A rescue mission is now underway, with extra support arriving from neighbouring Naxos island.
