The 'most expensive static caravan ever' is up for sale - as a holiday park predicts the £1.5million lodge sets a 'new British record'.
The property, located in Sandhills Holiday Park, Christchurch, Dorset, is on sale for a whopping £1.5 million and has left house hunters 'astounded' at its price.
Listed as an 'extraordinary holiday home' that is only available 11 months of the year, the lodge promises 'breathtaking panoramic sea views' over Christchurch Harbour.
Park Holidays UK who represent Sandhills say it 'may be setting a new British record for the price of a holiday lodge on a park' - but say it is a 'remarkable' holiday home that is cheaper than houses in the area. Marketed by estate agents Denisons, the property spans just 958 sqft of interior space - but manages to squeeze in three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open plan kitchen and living area and a sky deck.
Brad May, chief marketing officer at Park Holidays UK, said: "We are excited to learn that one of our owners is offering this remarkable lodge holiday home for sale at Sandhills Holiday Park. This is an exceptional beach-front holiday lodge with stunning views across the ocean to the Isle of Wight. The new owner will be taking possession of a real luxury bolt-hole which was specified by its original buyer with top-end decor, furnishings, and all mod-cons.
Caravan owners warned of £3,900 bill that could ruin trip - how to avoid it"Sandhills Holiday Park is increasingly seeing customers wanting to buy a holiday home to complement the exclusive lifestyles with which this gorgeous area is associated. Although this may be setting a new British record for the price of a holiday lodge on a park, it's still massively less than a similarly specified house in the Sandbanks area.
"The holiday lodge now up for sale is on the prestigious front row of Sandhills, but if this price point is out of budget for some people, we have slightly smaller seafront roof-deck lodges starting from £650,000, and holiday homes further back from the sea from just £124,995.
"We're sure this beautiful lodge will capture people's imaginations and will soon find a buyer!" The £1.5million holiday home prompted mixed reactions on social media - with many pointing out that it 'only' had 31 years left on its lease.
Many users were shocked by the high price, with one comment branding it a 'glorified shed'. Other users pointed out that the 'great location' in Christchurch, a sought-after holiday destination, justified the property's expense. The caravan park is open for 11 months of the year and houses a range of caravans, lodges and luxury apartments, which are for holiday use only.
Potential owners will have to share an outdoor heated swimming pool with neighbours and have access to a gym, lounge bar and a children's play area. While the price of a seafront pitch in the holiday park is unsurprisingly not cheap, a two-bedroom lodge in the area is on sale for considerably less at £595,000, according to Park Holidays.
A spokesperson for Denisons estate agents said: "There are others on the development that aren't on that level but this is quite unique and [another factor is] what money's been spent on it. The home is bespoke, and designed by the owner. It sits in a nice location with outstanding views. Across the water are the beach huts at Mudeford, which fetch £400-500,000 for a smaller beach-side home."
Many Reddit users took to the comments to criticise the extortionate price, with one saying it was a 'very nice static caravan', before sarcastically correcting themselves and changing it to 'park home'. One user said: "Most expensive mobile home ever?"
Another user said: "I cannot fathom how anyone would pay such a premium price for the most basic of comfort." A third user said: "If I have £1.5m as a pocket change, I wouldn't buy a glorified beach hut." A fourth user said: "That's astounding pricing. And not in a good way."
One added: "It's very nice but I'm struggling to see how and why anyone would spend that money on a static caravan with just 31 years left on the lease." Other users defended the high pricing and some suggested the property was 'great for Airbnb'. One user said: "There are places you can buy a beach hut for £400,000. This isn't surprising in the least." Another user said: "Great location though."
