Early morning flights at the crack of dawn may call for a caffeine boost, but passengers may want to think twice.

TUI flight attendant Miva shared her helpful advice on TikTok, via her platform @mrsmiva.

She explained how consuming coffee before or during a flight can exacerbate travellers' fear of flying.

As a stimulant, it speeds up the production and release of adrenaline, which can increase anxiety.

It can also interfere with flyers' sleep schedules, which may wreak havoc on a night flight and make them groggy after landing.

Miva urged passengers to "avoid coffee before and during the flight".

She said: "Caffeine can intensify tension.

"It also prevents you from sleeping."

While tea still contains caffeine, it may be a better beverage option - unlike energy drinks which should be avoided.

Miva also advised passengers with a fear of flying to alert staff members onboard.

She said: “Let us know that you are afraid.

"We’ll check on you during the flight. Ask questions that trigger uncertainty in you, we will answer them for you.”

This comes as another flight attendant revealed the reason why passengers should never wear short sleeves on a plane.
