With a week left before Arne Slot takes over at Anfield, more details are beginning to emerge when it comes to the managerial search which saw the Dutchman appointed by Liverpool.

Outgoing Feyenoord boss Slot will aim to pick up where Jurgen Klopp left off and launch a title bid in his first season with the club. He's expected to make additions to his squad, with Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes involved in recruitment, with outs as well as ins.

Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara are both leaving Merseyside, while other senior stars could follow suit. A number of potential signings have also been touted, and we're sure to get a better feel for how next season might look once the first of those deals is completed.

Before then, though, there's also plenty of fallout from Klopp's final season to pore over. Here are Mirror Football's latest lines from around Anfield.

Lijnders' Liverpool rejections

Jurgen Klopp's number two Pep Lijnders rejected Liverpool three times before opting to continue his managerial journey with Red Bull Salzburg. Lijnders returned to Liverpool after a brief spell as manager of NEC in The Netherlands, but will move to Austria rather than taking over from Klopp at Anfield.

“Jurgen had made his mind up and I was quite clear that it was the right time for me to make my own way,” Lijnders explained. “Over the past three years, I said ‘no’ to a lot of clubs. The reason I always stayed was out of loyalty to Jurgen and FSG. I already really wanted to go and show what I could do.”

Speaking to The Athletic, Lijnders added: "Jurgen asked me about it a few times in recent years. The season before I got the question from Jurgen and two times this season, but each time I said 'no.'"

Full extent of VAR errors explained

Liverpool were on the end of some contentious VAR decisions last season, not least in the defeat at Tottenham in which Luis Diaz had a goal wrongly ruled out. They weren't the only ones to suffer, though.

A full list of 30 VAR errors has come to light, with Jurgen Klopp's side suffering on other occasions beyond the Spurs trip. Alexis Mac Allister was wrongly sent off in the victory over Bournemouth, while the Reds should have been awarded a penalty for handball in the draw with Arsenal before Christmas.

All 20 Premier League teams are due to vote on the continued use of VAR in the competition, following a motion from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The motion needs the support of 14 out of 20 teams to pass.

Salah tipped to emulate Ronaldo

Former Liverpool star Vladimir Smicer has backed Mohamed Salah to follow the example of Cristiano Ronaldo and keep playing until he's 39 or older. Salah, who has been linked with a move to join Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League, turns 32 in June.

"It’s a very tough situation with Mohamed Salah, he may be getting older but he’s still Liverpool’s best striker, scoring so many goals and breaking records," Smicer told OLBG. "Of course the new manager is coming in and it will be a tough decision, but he deserves so much respect for what he has done for Liverpool. I would let him decide what he wants to do this summer. Never force him out of Anfield.

"He’s got one more year on his contract so it’s about seeing what his plans are, physically he looks like he could pay for another three or four years. Just look at Ronaldo, he’s still playing at 39 and hasn’t lost his legs. Salah could do the same."
