A HAIRDRESSER has revealed one mistake that almost everyone makes before going for a trim.
He revealed that not only is this practice completely redundant, it can also damage your hair.
Rhys Andrews took to social media to tell people that washing your hair before going to the hairdressers is completely pointless.
The hairstylist, from South Wales, took to TikTok to say: "Why do clients still feel compelled to wash their hair before coming to an appointment?
"I've had two this morning alone.

"Not only is it a waste of their time, but loves, I want your hair dirty.
"I want your hair oily.
He continued: "Not only is it my job to wash your hair and make it clean and sparkling and smell lovely, but those oils in your scalp are protecting your scalp against colour.
"We are putting chemicals on your head and this oil and dirt and that little build up is protecting your hair."
Rhys said that any client that comes in to his salon receives a "slap on the wrist" from him.
Addressing other hairstylists, he advised them to educate their clients, to stop them coming to the salon with clean hair.
The hairdresser's video, which was posted under the username @rhysandhair, has gone viral, racking up over 328,000 views on the video sharing platform.
TikTok users raced to the video's comments section to share their thoughts on his tip.
One person said: "I literally get told to wash my hair before my hairdresser comes round to cut my hair."
Another person added: "I've seen numerous videos of hairdressers shaming those who don’t wash their hair before going in".

A third person said: "I often go days without washing my hair and once my hairdresser had to wash my hair before the coloured it because it was that greasy.
"I was so embarrassed as normally they colour and then wash."
A fourth added: "This makes sense but why don't more hairdressers tell us this?"
