Dua Lipa's army of fans had just one complaint after she took to the Pyramid Stage on Glastonbury 2024's first night of music.

Fans were left fuming that she left out one of her biggest hits - Barbie’s Dance the Night.

The track was relegated to a short video interlude during a costume change rather than allocated a prime spot on the set list. Many blasted the decision during her headlining slot as “criminal”.

One said: “Dua Lipa not singing the Dance the Night is criminal.” Another tweeted: First tweet in nearly two years and it's to express my rage at #DuaLipa not singing Dance the Night during her headline set at #Glastonbury2024 Absolutely criminal.”

It’s led to fervent speculation online as to why she snubbed it. It hasn’t been performed at a handful of other festivals before Glastonbury either.

Some suggest that she may wish to move on from the track after its success overshadowed the release of her album Radical Optimism, which earned only mixed reviews.

Some have suggested the track “took the record label by surprise” after it reached number one on the UK charts, becoming Dua Lipa's fourth number-one single in the country. In the United States, the song peaked at number six on the Billboard Top 100 becoming the singer's fifth top-ten single in the country. It’s the lead single on the Barbie soundtrack.

Dua wrote it with Mark Ronson during a break from her year-long “Future Nostalgia” tour, and performed it at the Grammy’s where the track was also nominated.

“We rewrote ‘Dance the Night’ so many times to match the picture,” Ronson told Variety recently. “Like, Dua was literally coming up with lyrics — “When Margo does that come-hither thing with her fingers [in the scene], that’s when I want to sing ‘Come along for the ride,’ We actually engineered that song almost like a score.”

Dua Lipa was otherwise well received at the festival where she played songs including New Rules and Levitating. The firework and confetti-strewn set was the first headlining performance of the weekend. Coldplay are set to perform tonight.
