Idris Elba has revealed the unique way he bonds with his wife Sabrina as part of their "selfless self-care".
The Hollywood actor, 51, married model Sabrina Dhowre Elba in 2019 in a three-day extravaganza after first meeting at a party in Vancouver while he was filming The Mountain Between Us. He has previously described it as being "love at first sight". Idris and Sabrina have since shared the special way they bond as a couple.
Sabrina, 35, revealed they have a sink each, that's placed side by side. They then do the same skincare routine together, yet Sabrina joked Idris is much faster than her so has to catch up. She added: "I love showering together, although we have some really funny memories showering together."
"When we can get up at the same time and someone doesn't have to be up super early, it's really nice, because we can get into the shower and enjoy that moment, have a coffee together, which doesn't feel like it happens enough, unfortunately," Sabrina added to PEOPLE. "I think selfless self-care when it's with community and your partner and with anyone feels really nice."
Speaking of their first meeting, Idris previously shared on The View: "It was love at first sight. I went out on my only day off, true story, it was a Sunday night, I went to this party and there she was. The rest is history." He decided to pop the question at the Rio Cinema in London in February 2018 just days before Valentine's Day.
Why are Arsenal wearing an all-white kit against Oxford United, can I buy it?The cinema confirmed the exciting news as they said: ""Another @riocinema first! Still 5 days to Valentine's Day but @idriselba went down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend live on stage this morning before a preview of his film #Yardie." They wed the following April over a three-day celebration.
Last year, Idris shared how he spent a year in therapy working on "unhealthy habits" as a "workaholic". The 51-year-old confessed he needed to improve on his work-life balance despite being "massively rewarded" for his hard work and commitment to the industry. He confessed that he once found himself working for 10 days straight on a gruelling film set and spent his downtime relaxing in his studio rather than being with his family.
Speaking on the Changes podcast, Idris said he hoped to change his habits but did not want to cut down on his workload. The Luther actor said: "I've been in therapy for about a year now. It's a lot. In my therapy, I've been thinking a lot about changing, almost to the point of neuropaths being changed and shifting. It's not because I don't like myself or anything like that, it's just because I have some unhealthy habits that have really formed. And I work in an industry that I'm rewarded for those unhealthy habits, I'm rewarded for that."
He told host Annie Macmanus: "Whether it's to be selfish, or [because] I'm a workaholic. I'm an absolute workaholic, and that isn't great for life generally. Nothing that's too extreme is good, everything needs balance, but I'm rewarded massively to be a workaholic [compared] to someone that's like 'er, I'm not going to see my family for six months' and I'm in there grinding and making a new family and leave them. Those are pathways that I had to be like, 'I've got to adjust'. So I've been thinking about this a lot and oddly enough a lot of our childhood is really at the root of it."
