Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira has admitted that he is “scared” of Chelsea's spending power after their £55m move for teenage sensation Estevao Willian.

The Blues have agreed a deal to sign the 17-year-old. Nicknamed ‘Messinho’, he will link up with the West Londoners next year when he turns 18.

Chelsea are expected to pay an initial £29m for his services, with significant add-ons seeing the fee rise to £55m. While his club Palmeiras have bagged a huge amount for the youngster, not everyone is happy with the deal.

Manager Abel Ferreira has issued a hands off to the Blues should they be thinking about signing any more of his stars. He said: “Sometimes I'm afraid to say publicly what I think about the players, because I'm never sure what will happen in football.

“I think he's [Estevao Willian] a player who likes it when the ball is glued to his foot and he can do different things. Regarding his value, I give credit to our president, because if there’s one thing she does well, it’s negotiating. She’s very good at that!

“What can I say? One year we sold Endrick to Real Madrid and now another one this year, although no one has confirmed anything to me, to be honest. For Chelsea, what I'm afraid of is that no one will stay... the staff, players, coaches, no one.

“May they leave us here in peace. We want that temptation gone. I just hope Chelsea don’t take anyone else. Even I'm scared!”

Estevao Willian has enjoyed a brilliant breakout campaign for Palmeiras. The youngster has scored three goals and provided an assist in 18 appearances in all competitions.

He is not the only South American youngster to be targeted by the Blues during Todd Boehly's reign. They have also agreed to sign Kendry Paez from Independiente ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Angelo and Deivid Washington were also signed from Brazilian giants Santos this season. Midfielder Andrey Santos arrived from Vasco da Gama just a few months earlier.

Two of the trio were all sent out on loan last term. Santos initially joined Nottingham Forest on a temporary deal but was recalled after limited opportunities and eventually moved to another BlueCo club Strasbourg.

Angelo also spent the season with the French side but made just 15 starts and failed to get on the scoresheet. Washington spent the season with Chelsea and only made three appearances but did score six goals in 11 outings for the Blues under-23 side.
