Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez believes he is on the same level as Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski.

Martinez has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League over the years, with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal among those currently linked with the 26-year-old. He was the leading goalscorer in Serie A last season with 24 strikes and was named the league's most valuable player.

However, his current contract is due to expire in 2026 and negotiations have dragged on for months, prompting speculation he could leave Inter this summer. And he will inevitably be in demand given a number of clubs, including United and Arsenal, are looking to sign a top goalscorer.

And in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Martinez was asked if he believes he is one of the best forward in the world alongside Mbappe, Haaland, Kane and Lewandowski. "I have nothing to be jealous of them, the numbers and the trophies say so," he replied.

"Some of them have won less than me. I have to keep working responsibly as my father taught me, but I can be at the same level as all these great players."

There have been reports from Italy claiming Inter and Martinez remain far apart on wages, with the player said to be demanding €14million (£11.9m) a year while the club have only offered him €8m (£6.8m).

And when asked about Martinez's wage demands, his agent Alejandro Camano told TV Play : "I don't think the fans need to know the figures. I obviously only speak to Inter about that. There is talk of 12 or 14 million, but I repeat, these are issues between Lautaro and the club.

"Besides, these are numbers I never mentioned and neither did Inter. Why should we talk about this? Let us instead talk about his love for Inter. The fans must know that Lautaro loves the city of Milan and this team. Lautaro loves this club, so there is no need to worry."

Camano also insisted he has "not spoken to any other clubs" about his client's future, but admitted it is "only logical that other teams want him". He added: "I have not spoken to any other clubs regarding his future and I have no intention of doing so.

"I am only talking to Inter over a possible renewal, even if Lautaro does still have two more years on his contract with the Nerazzurri. It's only logical that other teams want him, but I am only talking to Inter."
