Following the announcement by Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes that they will be divorcing after 14 years of marriage, sources close to the couple have revealed the real reason behind their split.
The couple became favourites of the nation when they presented ITV's This Morning together, their time together littered with bickering and banter between the couple, which often threatened to get rather more tense than it did. Their time together on screen saw them have a number of awkward spats and snide remarks, which they always said came about by their affection for each other.
While there was plenty of crossed words between them, there was shock when they were brutally axed by This Morning bosses, leading to Eamonn moving away from ITV completely and take up a role with GB News, taking swipes at his old bosses with some cutting remarks in the past few years. Ruth, meanwhile, stayed with the station and continues to be a host on Loose Women.
The joint statement from Ruth and Eamonn about their marital status was released on social media on Saturday, which simply announced: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."
A source close to the couple has elaborated on the shock news, after concerns had grown for the couple in recent weeks with them not being pictured together or appearing on each other's individual social media pages for quite a while. The source told The Sun: "They are determined to stay friends and keep things amicable." The source also added that one of the driving factors has been their conflicting work schedules and the different directions their careers were taking now that they are both not at ITV.

Ruth told the magazine: "I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope. He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100% right. With any care situation - and there are millions of carers in this country - it isn’t always easy. It’s testing but we manage as a family.’
Ruth added: "I look at Eamonn, who’s had his health and back problems, and it makes you realise how important your health is."
