Arsenal sporting director Edu claims that he 'cannot say how he feels' when it comes to the 115 charges of alleged financial wrongdoing facing rivals Manchester City.

Premier League chiefs threw the book at City last February, three months before they secured their third of four successive league titles at Arsenal's expense. Edu's club once again finished as runners-up to Pep Guardiola and co this season, angering supporters who continue to accuse City of cheating their way to unparalleled success.

The reigning champions vehemently deny any wrongdoing and it's been widely reported that City executives believe they'll be cleared once a hearing takes place - although it's unknown when. In the meantime, Edu is keeping tight-lipped.

"There are things that unfortunately I cannot say what I feel," the ex-Gunners midfielder told Brazilian outlet Estadao when asked about City's charges. "But all the credit in the world to Pep for the training and work he's been doing since he started his career.

"I even joke with my son that I want to see if he's really good at rugby. It's a joke I make because he's already won everything in football."

However Guardiola achieves his success won't be a mystery to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who was part of the Catalan's coaching staff before making his return to the Emirates in 2019. Arteta has been working closely with Edu ever since to help reach City's level on the pitch and in the same interview, the Gunners chief explained one of the most crucial aspects of his role - transfers.

"You can't sign for the sake of signing," Edu stated. "This has to be a process that takes weeks and weeks. On my table, I have reports with over 180 pages of a player. It is really detailed. Physical, technical, mental profile - if you have experience of Premier League, if you will be able to adapt. It has it all.

"We analyse our shortcomings, where we can improve, where we can invest and from there we go in search of this new name. What I am going to do now, we have been discussing since January. It is not my decision or Mikel. It's from a whole group."

The aim for Arsenal is to go one better next season and lift their first Premier League title in what'll be 22 years.
