Eamonn Holmes shared an insight into his marriage troubles with Ruth Langsford before they started divorce proceedings.

The couple who had been married for 14 years confirmed over the weekend that they had split and were officially starting proceedings to divorce one another. Eamonn, 64, and Ruth, also 64, had been together for 27 years but the Belfast-born GB News broadcaster is said to have been against announcing their split and was reportedly left "devastated".

Although they may have been the image of happiness in public, it appears that it wasn't all plain sailing for the former couple behind doors. Previously, Emaonn has opened up about their struggles and revealed that Ruth once issued him an ultimatum.

In the candid discussion, he told Kaye Adams - who works alongside Ruth as a panellist on ITV’s Loose Women - that his wife was scornful of his passion for buying old childhood toys on eBay and refused to let him display them at home. "It meets disdain from my wife. I tend to look up toys from when I was about ten years of age, so anything to do with Airfix, soldiers, Captain Scarlet toys, Dinky, Corgi – things that made me very happy when I was young," he said.

"And then Ruth shouts, things arrive and she doesn’t allow them in the house and she calls them dust collectors. I'm not allowed to display anything. When I was a kid, I had lots of Action Men and I tried to start buying Action Men, but Ruth put the kibosh on that as well."

There had been speculation for some time that the former golden couple had been living separate lives before a representative announced their plans on Saturday. The joint statement read: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."

Concern had been growing for the much-loved duo, who worked together for years on ITV's This Morning after fans noticed they had not been pictured together in months. Although Ruth is yet to address their separation, Eamonn has spoken out and thanked fans for their continued support.

During his Tuesday instalment of the GB News Breakfast programme, he told viewers: "Just before we move on we'd just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."

The pair are said to be "determined to stay friends" having spent most of their professional careers together although Langsford is reportedly the driving force behind announcing their split. Meanwhile, Eamonn is said to have told friends he "didn't want to get involved" and "Ruth can do what she wants but keep me out of it".
