Wayne Rooney will have to juggle his BBC commitments after being named as the new Plymouth boss.
The Manchester United great will be part of the broadcast's Euro 2024 punditry team who are based out of Berlin. Rooney's schedules though will cross with the Championship outfit returning to training on July 2 — 12 days before the Euros final.
Rooney will still be in Berlin for some games but he plans to divide his time with Plymouth to prepare for the start of the season.
Rooney's role at Home Park is his first since he was sacked by Birmingham, who were relegated to League One. The 38-year-old only won two of his 15 games in charge before being given the boot at St Andrew's.
Plymouth were among those to finish narrowly above Birmingham, ending up in 21st in what was their return to the second tier. They'll get another chance to sustain themselves as a Championship outfit next term as Rooney looks to prove himself as a manager.
Ferdinand uses Rooney example to defend Ronaldo "disgrace" claimsHe said: “Taking this role at Plymouth Argyle feels like the perfect next step in my career – and I would like to thank the Chairman and Board for the faith they have shown in me.
" This is an opportunity to be part of an exciting project. I look forward to helping to build a squad of players to play expansive football – and to entertain the Green Army.
“I have experienced first-hand how talented the existing group of players is here – and also the incredible atmosphere at Home Park. The club is on an exciting long-term journey, with a progressive plan in place. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of it. I can’t wait for the Championship season to start in August.”
Rooney's previous jobs have seen him coach Derby and Birmingham in the Championship. Whilst in charge of the Rams he couldn't save them from the drop and the England great is out to prove he can cut it in the dugout.
He has recently impressed as a pundit, being part of the BBC's coverage of the FA Cup final. He's also appeared on Sky Sports with his impressive playing career giving him strong insight, which he'll share this summer alongside the likes of Frank Lampard and Alan Shearer.
