A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 34-year-old mum was stabbed to death on a beach.

Amie Gray died after being stabbed on Durley Chine Beach in Bournemouth on Friday night, Dorset Police said. A second woman, aged 38, was also seriously injured and remains in hospital.

A 17-year-old from Lancashire was initially arrested over the attack and eliminated from the investigation. Now police have confirmed a second arrest has been made of a man from Croydon, South London.

Detective Superintendent Richard Dixey, of the force's Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “The investigation has progressed at speed over recent days, which has now led to an arrest being made in London. Officers from Dorset Police intelligence and firearms teams worked together with colleagues from the Metropolitan Police to carry out the arrest."

Following news of Amie's tragic death, tributes have been paid to the personal trainer and mother. Her wife Sian Gray described her as a "forever loved wife and mother", saying: "Sunsets will always remind us of you".

Friend Nicola Smale meanwhile described Amie as "a beautiful person inside and out". She said: "Fly high Amie Gray, I'll miss you so much. I feel so heavy! You were such a good friend and someone I could call about anything. A beautiful person inside and out, thank you for all the laughs and memories I will cherish forever."

Officers were seen scouring land around the beach on Tuesday as the force said it would be leaving no stone unturned. The force said it was working "tirelessly" to establish what happened, whilst also providing an update on the second victim's condition.

DS Dixey added: “We are continuing to update the loved ones of the woman who tragically died, as well as the victim in hospital, with all the latest developments and our thoughts remain with them. I would like to thank everyone so far who has provided information and reiterate my appeal for any witnesses who have not already come forward to please contact Dorset Police.

“The enhanced visible policing presence in the area will remain in place and we would continue to strongly encourage anyone with concerns to please not hesitate to speak to any officer who will be able to listen and provide appropriate advice.”

The detective said earlier on Tuesday his team was "proactively pursuing a number of active lines of enquiry and intelligence" to piece together the events from Friday night. Emergency services were called at 11.42pm with reports two people had been stabbed on the beach.

One friend today described Amie as a ‘friend to everyone’ and said he couldn’t think of any reason why anyone would hurt her. Gavin Cross, a close friend of Amie, told The Mirror: “Amie would light up a room, she had an infectious smile.

“Whatever she was going through in her own life she would always put other people’s feelings first. She was a really good friend to everyone, I can’t imagine anyone that would want to hurt her."

Gavin added: “Amie was really popular and lots of people knew her from different walks of life.” Amie, from Poole, Dorset, was married to wife Sian and was step-mother to her 13-year-old daughter.

She ran a local indoor football team, worked in sales and also as a personal fitness trainer. She was described by one acquaintance as a "wonderful human being and didn’t have any enemies".

She received a coaching badge by the Football Association in January this year. Dorset Futsal Club, where Amie worked as a coach, changed its Facebook profile picture to a black square over the weekend.

They said the club “has received truly devastating news,” adding: “We cannot put this into words at this time and as a mark of respect to all those affected, we will not be posting anything in the foreseeable future.”

Alongside a collage of photos with Amie, a friend of hers posted to Facebook: "Fly high Amie Gray I’ll miss you so much. I feel so heavy! You were such a good friend and someone I could call about anything. A beautiful person inside and out, Thank you for all the laughs and memories I will cherish forever."

Another person wrote: "I cannot believe what I'm hearing right now. I literally spoke to you last night & was supposed to see you tomorrow. Fly high Amie Gray."
