Vincent Kompany was appointed Bayern Munich's new boss on Wednesday and will soon be able to put his stamp on the club's starting XI.

The former Manchester City defender departs Burnley to succeed Thomas Tuchel looking to prove himself in the Bundesliga and Champions League. It is the 38-year-old's third role following his playing career after also leading Anderlecht.

Kompany was not Bayern's first choice with Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann and Austria manager Ralf Rangnick all rejecting Bayern’s advances. The Belgian 'fits in very well with FC Bayern's playing philosophy and identity' according to Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund, however.

Following his appointment, Kompany outlined the style he wanted to implement. "As a coach, you have to stand for who you are as a person: I love having the ball, being creative - and we also have to be aggressive on the pitch and courageous," he said.

"I'm now looking forward to the most basic things: working with the players, building a team. When the foundation is in place, success will follow."

The introduction of a new head coach is often combined with the arrival of players suited to helping to transition to their style. Already there have been links to Die Roten, with Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton and City's Jack Grealish both being touted for a move.

With that said, Mirror Football takes a look at a starting XI Kompany could name in the coming months.

Manuel Neuer is synonymous with being aggressive and courageous in his actions on the pitch. Even entering the final year of his contract, the 38-year-old will prove key for Kompany.

Mattijs de Ligt will likely figure in the heart of defence but there will be competition to be his partner. Kim Min-jae could get the nod ahead of Dayot Upamecano and Eric Dier.

Alphonso Davies could offer an aggressive option at left back, with Kompany previously offering an attacking role to Ian Maatsen, now on loan at Borussia Dortmund. Joshua Kimmich's ability on the ball could see him take position on the right side.

Wharton, fresh from an England call-up, could offer plenty of ball-playing ability on the right side of the pitch alongside Leon Goretzka. Aleksandar Pavlovic would provide a defensive alternative.

Grealish's arrival would see the introduction of a figure familiar with dominating possession under Pep Guardiola on the left side, while former Kompany teammate Leroy Sane could take the opposite flank. The German winger would bring plenty of experience at transitioning quickly, and of Kompany's influence.

Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane would round off the team. With talent like that, Kompany's assertion that 'success will follow' may need to be realised quickly.

Kompany's dream XI: Neuer; Kimmich, De Ligt, Min-jae, Davies; Wharton, Goretzka, Sane, Musiala, Grealish, Kane.
