Sarah Ferguson and Meghan Markle's relationship has been rocky over the years

Sarah Ferguson and Meghan Markle met during cosy drinks with Harry back in 2016 when the former Suits star and Prince Harry went public with their romance.

Fergie has since said that she "doesn't really know" Meghan, despite them having attended weddings and funerals together. But what has really gone on between the pair over the last eight years or so?

Back in 2021, Meghan sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a televised interview she and Harry did. During this chat, Meghan lifted the lid on what the relationship she had with Fergie was like.

At the time she gushed over how Fergie taught her how to curtsey. Meghan revealed how she did not know she would be meeting the Queen until "moments before".

She recalled: "We were in the car and we were going to the Royal Lodge for lunch, and he [Harry] was like, 'Oh, my grandmother is here, she's gonna be there after church'." Meghan went on: "Right in front of the house we practiced and ran in. Fergie ran out and said, 'Do you know how to curtsy?'

"Apparently I did a very deep curtsy, I don't remember it, and then we sat there and we chatted," she added.

But three years before Meghan publicly gushed over her bond with Fergie, it was alleged that Harry and Meghan made an awkward gaffe which left the Duchess of York "furious".

The Sussexes are reported to have told the Royal Family their baby news at Princess Eugenie's wedding to Jack Brooksbank in October 2018. In the book Royals at War, journalists Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett said: "Meghan put her foot in it when she decided that it would be the ideal moment to announce that she and Harry were expecting their first child.

"This was a huge social gaffe, even if you were not a royal – stealing the limelight from Eugenie, who was furious, as was her mother, Sarah."

And last year in March 2023, Fergie seemingly snubbed Meghan when she told The Telegraph she "doesn't know" the Duchess. She brazenly admitted to the paper: "I don't really know Meghan. I haven't really met her."
