Services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport are affected following a car landing on the train tracks below after crashing at a roundabout. All railway lines between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester following the incident
A car has flipped on to a railway line causing widespread rush hour chaos.
The vehicle is said to have smashed into a roundabout at Regent Road in Salford before falling on to the track. The smash has affected all services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport.
A GMP Traffic spokesperson wrote on X: "Regent Rd Roundabout, Salford. Please expect some delays this morning while remedial works are carried out following a 1 vehicle collision.
"There will also be disruption to the rail network as the car has landed on the train tracks. Driver arrested for positive breath sample." The Manchester Evening News confirmed that a driver has been taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Drivers are also being warned to expect delays at Regent Road roundabout, off the M602, this morning.
A National Rail spokesperson added: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Newton-le-Willows / Wigan North Western and Manchester Oxford Road / Manchester Victoria all lines are currently closed. As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed or diverted. Disruption is expected until 13:00."
According to the ECHO, the lines affected are Northern services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport, between Wigan North Western and Manchester Victoria, also between Chester and Leeds / Manchester Victoria
TransPennine Express services between Liverpool Lime Street and Hull / Manchester Victoria / Newcastle, also between Lancaster and Manchester Airport
Transport for Wales services between Chester / Llandudno and Manchester Airport / Manchester Oxford Road, also between Holyhead and Manchester Airport
