A man who died after allegedly being attacked outside a Wetherspoons pub in London has been named.

Charlie Prodromou, 63, died in hospital after a suspected assault outside The Watch House in Lewisham around 8.39pm on Saturday.

Paul Tallant, 42, of Eltham was arrested near the scene and appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court today charged with murder.

He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday.

Police and paramedics, who were called to reports of an assault, found Prodromou with life-threatening injuries.

He was taken to hospital where he later died. His family have been informed.

It’s believed Mr Prodromou was attacked following a disturbance at The Watch House.

Lewisham High Street was closed at the time, blocking several bus routes.

One single decker bus was trapped within the police cordon. Pictures from the scene show first aid equipment and rubbish scattered along the road beside it.

Detective Chief Inspector Craig Magee, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said on Sunday: ‘This tragic incident happened in a busy part of south-east London.

‘We would like to hear from anyone who was in Lewisham High Street or at The Watch House pub and has information about what happened.

‘We have spent the night at the scene and there will be an increased police presence in the area today while we continue to gather evidence.

‘I recognise the concern a crime of this nature causes. We have a suspect in custody, and based on the enquiries carried out so far, we do not believe there to be any risk to the wider community.’
