A man was left red-faced at the airport after a suspected weapon turned out to be part of a Harry Potter costume.

Podcaster and radio personality Ryan Jon was flying to Brisbane when the Australian was stopped by security.

Airport officers initially suspected that he was carrying a weapon but, upon searching his carry-on bag found a toy wand instead.

In a bizarre twist, it emerged that Ryan doesn't even like the JK Rowling franchise.

“Raise your hand if you just had to have your bag searched by two professionals because they accused you of having a weapon... and it was because you had a Harry Potter wand,” Ryan said in a TikTok video.

Ryan's misfortune certainly entertained his podcast co-star Toni, who looked shocked before bursting into a fit of laughter.

Ryan recorded himself opening his suitcase to reveal the troublesome wand, which was part of a Slytherin costume.

“I don’t even like Harry Potter,” Ryan admitted in quotes reported by 7news.com.au.

Ryan told officials that he hated the film but was travelling to another state and had a fancy-dress outfit with him.

Security initially found a cape upon opening the case, before finding the wand inside a box.

The video has been viewed over half a million times, with social media users quick to add to the amusing airport incident.

“Not the concealed weapons of magic destruction,” one said.

Another joked: “Those CAN be weapons in the hands of an evil wizard.”

Other Harry Potter fans admitted that they had found themselves in a similar situation.

“I got searched, thought it was my wands but it ended up being my chocolate frogs. They showed me the scan and it looked like I was smuggling real frogs,” one revealed.

“Got searched at an airport for weapons. It was just a suitcase full of lightsabers from Disneyland. Panic laughed through the whole thing,” a Star Wars fan added.
