As well as covering the latest national and international news, the presenters also spoke to Beyond Paradise's Sally Bretton and Barbara Flynn.

The Death in Paradise spin-off series starts tonight and sees Kris Marshall reprise his role as DI Humphrey Goodman.

Sally plays his fiancee Martha Lloyd while Barbara plays her mother Anne, who the couple move in with when they relocate to Devon.

Charlie and Nina asked the women about filming on location in Cornwall, which stood in for its neighbouring county, and also how that faired for Sally compared to filming in the Caribbean for Death in Paradise.

But at one point Charlie asked Barbara about an accident she had, and the actress looked a bit perplexed.

She said: "During filming you mean? Yes...we haven't really talked about that."

As they talked over each other a bit, she added: "It had nothing to do with the filming."

Charlie interjected: "Well let's not talk about it then."

Charlie then referenced how Death in Paradise focused on murders each episode and asked if the spin-off had taken the same approach, but Sally said: "So far there are none, there are modern crimes," which left him a bit unsure of himself too.

BBC Breakfast viewers were left cringing at home while watching the interaction.

One wrote: " The BBCs Charlie Stayt talking about Death in Paradise spin off when he's obviously never watched Death in Paradise it's excruciating."

Another added: "Oh my god that was painful #beyondparadise #BBCBreakfast."

A third tweeted: "Bl***y hell. That was some laboured interview that even shoe horned in the Pandemic and Lockdown."
