Madonna 's older brother Anthony Ciccone sadly died at the age of 66, and the singer offered her sibling a sweet gesture to help him in his final years.

Despite having a complicated relationship with her now-deceased brother, Madonna, 64, did ensure that Anthony was financially secure.

Sources close to the family told TMZ that the Hung Up hitmaker paid Anthony’s rehabilitation fees at a centre in Michigan prior to his death this weekend.

The publication reported that he had been staying at the centre for quite some time, and refused treatment two days before his death.

Sharing a black-and-white picture of his brother-in-law, Joe wrote: "My brother-in-law, Anthony Gerard Ciccone, exited this earthly plane last evening. I’ve known him since I was 15, in the spring of our lives in Michigan so many years now gone.

"As brother Dave Henry (who took this photograph) notes here, Anthony was a complex character; and god knows: we tangled in moments, as true brothers can.

"But I loved him, and understood him better than I was sometimes willing to let on. But trouble fades; and family remains— with hands reached across the table.

"Farewell, then, brother Anthony. I want to think the god your blessed mother (and mine) believed in has her there, waiting to receive you. At least for today, no one shall dissuade me from this vision."

His cause of death has not been revealed, but the outlet revealed that sources claimed he had been suffering from alcoholism, which allegedly led to homelessness.

The Mirror has contacted a representative of Madonna for comment.
