Conor McGregor fans split in reaction over UFC star’s “cockroaches” rant

Conor McGregor's fans appear to be split in their reactions to the UFC legend's rant about "vermin" and "cockroaches" on social media.

The former two-weight world champion has become known for his outlandish Twitter outbursts, but unlike many of his stranger messages this messages has survived his usual 'tweet and delete' plan. He took to social media to slam some unspecified people who are looking down on others and encouraged his fans to "soldier on".

And his millions of followers seem divided with how to respond, as some empathised with the message while others believed it to be a nonsensical post from the Irishman. There was also a strong sentiment from supporters that he should remove himself from Twitter and focus on his imminent return to the octagon, believed to be this year.

"See all these little vermin. These little cockroaches," McGregor wrote in a bizarre post yesterday afternoon, garnering over 1.4million views. "They don’t care about you so F*** Them. Whoever needed to hear this today and soldier on, there it is. You’re welcome. #ICare #Careful."

Some fans believed the message to be inspirational, with one writing that they were "Wise words from a wise warrior." Another added "Well said Champ!! I live by this everyday!" Others simply noted that the "GOAT", meaning Greatest Of All Time, had spoken and that the message should be taken on board.

It appeared to hit a particular nerve with a few fans, as one wrote "This is actually very much needed today. The words are perfect. The timing is perfect. Much gratitude and respect. Thank you." Another added "I actually needed this, can’t wait to see what you do in the future champ! Much love."

But other users weren't so sure about the Irishman's latest rambling, with one quipping "Words! That make no sense. No value. Say something great like Ali." Another detractor simply asked "So, you fighting soon? This nonsense talk is getting boring." Another added "Money changed you little bro..."

McGregor is expected to begin looking at a return to the octagon from next month, at which point he will re-enter the USADA Drug Testing programme and start testing again. He has been suffering from a gruesome leg break which took place during his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier in July of 2021, and will have been out for almost two years when he does make his comeback.

There are a number of prospective opponents lined up, with the Irishman expected to make the permanent move to welterweight after bulking up to over 195lb during his time off. Michael Chandler has been vocal in his push for the fight, while long-time rival Tony Ferguson could also be an option for an easing back into competition.
