SIR Keir Starmer vowed to hike desperately needed funding for women’s refuges if he makes it to No10.

The Labour boss promised Spice Girl and campaigner Mel B he will look to plough more cash into supporting women’s services across the nation if he gets put in charge.

It came after he was grilled by brave survivor Mel on doing more to tackle violence against women and girls if he becomes PM.

But the Labour chief dodged questions on whether he would make it a sixth mission ahead of the election in a bid to properly protect women.

Nearly half of women’s refuges across the country are funded by donations and volunteer work because they haven’t got the cash to keep them going.

Sir Keir said promised to “look at what support we can put in place - because the funding is clearly an ongoing issue”.

He added: “We have got to get the basics in place when it comes to violence against women and girls.

“That does involve funding, it does involve making sure that the support is there.

“There’s a lot that also needs to be done.”
