ITV HAS confirmed the future of Unforgotten after five series on screens.

The fifth series of smash-hit crime show concluded tonight on ITV1 and bosses have dropped exciting news.

They've revealed the show will be back for a sixth series with Sinéad Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar both returning.

Series sixth will follow their characters DI Khan and DCI James as they investigate cold cases and unsolved crimes from the past, unravelling secrets and unearthing buried truths.

The news comes following record ratings for the show, which first began in 2015.

Popular character DCI Cassie Stuart (played by Nicola Walker) left the programme at the end of series four.

Fans were in tears when the beloved character Cassie died on Unforgotten.

Viewers were in left in bits after a doctor revealed that Cassie had suffered extensive brain damage and wouldn't recover from her injuries.

It came after she was involved in a major accident at the end of episode five.

Unforgotten has been filmed in a number of locations such as London which was used to shoot many of the scenes.

However crews were also spotted in Tilbury, Essex.

Further away, Bath was also a crucial filming location for season 5.

Filming on the latest series wrapped in Paris.
