COUNTRYFILE fans blasted the BBC for broadcasting an episode dedicated to shooting and gamekeeping in a controversial move.

The episode featured tales of shooting still taking place across many UK countryside hotspots.

Viewers of the BBC One show denounced the show as they felt it was tone-deaf to feature segments about people spending large amounts of money to shoot living birds amidst the cost of living crisis.

The show featured different case studies of individuals and businesses who still partake in shooting with many of them claiming that they would be left 'jobless' should they no longer be allowed to continue with the eyebrow-raising tradition.

But the episode did not sit well with fans who felt the show was glamorising the act of shooting.

Fans flooded Twitter with their thoughts after they were left outraged by the decision to air the episode.

One fan fumed: "#countryfile you're disgusting! You've clearly lost your way. Everybody having a good time... not!!"

Another questioned the episode, writing: "I'm sorry... is #countryfile actually promoting and filming an episode on shooting? Countryfile?.. A programme that reports on environmental and agricultural issues."

A third blasted the show as they fumed: "Yes Countryfile, showing people who pay thousands of pounds on a 'hobby/sport' of killing animals whilst everyone else is struggling to even put their heating on. Seems like the rational way to gain support for rural areas and make the countryside more appealing."

The unfavourable comments continued to flood in as another insisted the programme's makers had 'misjudged' what the show's viewers wanted to see.

The appalled fan declared: "You've sadly misjudged you're program tonight. 'Shoots' on wealthy estates. Millions struggling to survive and you focus a prime time program on a minority hobby for the super rich.

"We don't care and all you've done is alienated a massive section of your viewers!"

As a fifth fan commented: "@BBCCountryfile at no point did you ask the questions why do people want to pay to kill another creature and if it's for pleasure is it morally wrong to enjoy killing? I say it is."

With the episode clearly having left a bad taste in fans mouths, one viewer was forced to 'turn off' the show.

They said: "I've had to turn off Countryfile because they are not universally condemning shooting."
