Man City's Ederson drops major Ancelotti claim and delivers Real Madrid promise

Ederson has been told by his compatriots that there's a "great possibility" Carlo Ancelotti will become the next Brazil boss.

The South Americans are looking for their next manager after Tite quit after the World Cup following the country's penalty exit to Croatia in the last eight. Brazil's talented squad have been starved of global success and rumours are rife that they could turn to one of the game's most successful managers.

Ancelotti is the only man to win the Champions League four times after last year's success with Real Madrid, but they've struggled to hit the same heights this term. Los Blancos are well off the pace in LaLiga and the Spanish giants often have little patience following trophy-less seasons.

The Italian is under contract until 2024 and could still deliver another European Cup - the trophy by which Madrid define themselves. Ancelotti currently coaches several of Brazil's current stars and they've relayed to Ederson that the manager could make the switch.

He said: "I commented with Casemiro, Vini and Militao. There is a great possibility that he will come, of course, so we are going to look for that result so that he can come as soon as possible. I was told that he is exceptional, everyone likes him, he is very successful. We'll see in the near future if he's here or not."

Ederson's Manchester City side could yet meet Los Blancos in the semi-finals of the Champions League for the second straight year. Last season Madrid made a miraculous late recovery to shock the English side, but their goalkeeper is now hopeful they can accelarate Ancelotti's switch from Spain to Brazil.

He joked: “We will try to eliminate Real Madrid so that Ancelotti can come to Brazil as quick as possible!" For that to become a possibility City have to overcome Bayern Munich and Madrid must see off Chelsea.

Ancelotti has distanced himself from speculation regarding his future and admits, whilst he'd remain at the Bernabeu for the remainder of his career, that is an unlikely prospect. He said: "It's an evaluation that the club has to make, not me. I've said many times that I'd stay here for life, but I think that's impossible. It's a decision the club will take at the end of the season, whatever happens."

Los Blancos face an uphill task to remain in the Copa del Rey with Barcelona winning the first-leg of their semi-final but Ancelotti is "convinced that we'll win something this season" - placing further emphasis on their European campaign.
