COPS have stepped up the hunt to search for a schoolgirl who vanished a week ago – as it emerged she has no phone or access to money.

Jamie- Lee Harvie,  12, from Ayr, boarded a train at the town’s station  around 3.30pm last Tuesday and - it’s believed a family member spotted her getting off at Irvine 14 miles away.

At a press conference, Chief Inspector Kevin Lammie said he was increasingly concerned for the youngster’s welfare.

He said: “Since then we have no information as to Jamie-Lee’s whereabouts – and this is now really concerning me.

“The fact is that Jamie-Lee is 12 and we have been unable, despite extensive searches to trace her and no one has been able to say they have heard from her.

“I don’t believe Jamie-Lee has a mobile phone in her possession and I don’t believe she has access to a bank account.”

He said a possible sighting had been called in by a member of the public on Saturday, March 18, who claims to have spotted Jamie-Lee outside the Royal Irvine Academy – where she is a pupil.

He added: “But as of yet, I’ve not been able to confirm that.

“Thankfully at this time, there is nothing to suggest that Jamie-Lee has come to any harm but for me, she is a child and I want to make sure she is safe and well.”

A dedicated police team continues to carry out extensive address searches in Ayrshire and have been trawling CCTV in a bid to spot the girl.

He confirmed that although the youngster now lives in Ayr, she comes from Irvine, and still has family and friends there – but they aren’t ruling out that she could’ve travelled outwith Ayrshire.

And although she’s gone missing in the past, this is the longest she’s been unaccounted for.

He said: “This is out of character for Jamie-Lee to be missing for this long and the focus here is on her being missing on this occasion.”

The youngster is described as white, around 5ft tall, of medium build, and speaks with a local Ayrshire accent.

Police confirmed she was wearing black leggings, black jumper, a black puffa jacket and black trainers, when she was last seen.

Appealing directly to Jamie-Lee, he added: “You are not in any trouble whatsoever and we would be willing to talk with you but please contact me to let me know that you are safe and well.”

The girl’s heartbroken uncle, Steven Harvie, of Irvine, made a desperate plea to the public to find his beloved niece.

Posting to Facebook, he said: “It’s coming up on a week today that she’s been missing for and something, something ain’t adding up.

“Yes, many are aware she’s gone missing before but never for this length of time.

“Someone knows something and the longer it goes on, the longer it’s putting extra amounts of stress on the family.”

Her cousin, Khloe, added: “All the family is worried sick.”
