POLICE seized guns being smuggled to the UK from Albania in a British-plated van.
Eight Glock pistols and 200 bullets were recovered from the white Mercedes-Benz as it prepared to board a ferry.
It was held in the Albanian port of Durres after a police scanner detected the weapons in a food hamper.
The vehicle was set to travel to Ancona in Italy, with its final destination said to be Luton.
Albanian driver Jetmir Koloshi, 35, from the capital Tirana, was arrested and has been charged with attempting to traffic weapons.
