The next iteration of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is on the horizon with six senior players set to leave Anfield on a free this summer.

One has already confirmed their departure, with Roberto Firmino set to leave Merseyside after eight years at Anfield - leaving his current manager surprised. Five other first-team players expected to join him out the door too, including former Arsenal and England star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

It's not all bad news for Klopp though, with Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones all extending their contracts, with the trio now tied down until the summer of 2027.

Klopp has made no secret of the urgency to rebuild his squad this summer, and there are several important players who are approaching the final years of their contracts. Mirror Football brings you the full list of Liverpool’s contract situation by position...

Goalkeepers

Liverpool’s stalwart between the sticks, Alisson, may be the only registered goalkeeper currently in Klopp’s squad to be included next season. Adrian is set to follow in the footsteps of Loris Karius last summer, whose contract was allowed to expire.

And Caoimhin Kelleher may follow Adrian out the door. The Irish goalkeeper is under contract until 2026, but is said to be in pursuit of more game time with multiple suitors rumoured to be interested in a loan deal for the 24-year-old.

Kelleher has played 90 minutes for the under-21s this season and that may well be where Liverpool look for a bench option. Fabian Mrozek, 19, went on Liverpool’s mid-season training camp in Dubai and is a possible choice.

The regular shot-stopper for the academy side is Harvey Davies, though. He has already played for the first team in pre-season and earning an extended deal with the club. Davies was also an unused substitute in July’s Community Shield win.

Alisson – 2027

Caoimhin Kelleher – 2026

Adrian – 2023

Defenders

There is no immediate threat to Liverpool’s back-line, with the next contract to expire being that of Joel Matip in 2024. Matip joined on a free transfer from Schalke in 2016, and signed an extension in 2024 that will see his contract run out next season.

There has been discussion involving the defender's future, and Matip has refused to get into conversation about rumours. "It’s not on my mind, I don’t listen to all the things and all the people and what they’re saying,” he told TalkSport.

“I cannot listen to all these things and get influenced by this. I have all the trust and confidence in my team-mates and in myself, I know the quality of myself and my teammates and we are going from there.”

The summer of 2025 will mark the end of the current contracts of Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kostas Tsimikas and Nat Phillips. Three more expire the following year in Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate and Rhys Williams.

Midfielders

Liverpool are guaranteed to lose at least one midfielder this summer when Arthur Melo returns to his parent club upon completion of his loan deal from Juventus. There may be three more midfielders joining in him on the way out of Merseyside.

Long-term servant James Milner joined Liverpool before Klopp took the reins in 2015, arriving on a free transfer in the summer of that year. His future remains uncertain but his manager is eager to keep the ‘“incredibly important” 37-year-old.

Meanwhile, midfield duo Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cost the Reds shy of £100million combined, and Liverpool seem set to not recoup a single penny. Oxlade-Chamberlain arrived for £40m in 2017, while Keita was reported to have cost a fee in excess of £50m the following year.

The future is bright for Liverpool’s midfield though with the long-term deals in place for Elliot, Jones and Bajctecic. The next longest deal is for Fabinho, until 2026, while skipper Jordan Henderson is currently set to end his stay the year prior. Thiago will be entering the final 12 months of his contract in July.

Liverpool are looking to bolster their midfield further, and have reportedly agreed a contract with Ryan Gravenberch after their pursuit of Jude Bellingham came to a halt.

Forwards

Firmino aside, Liverpool’s front line has a very secure future. Cody Gakpo signed a five-and-a-half year contract with the club, which will see his contract run until 2028 alongside Darwin Nunez.

Key man Mohamed Salah has the shortest contract of the attackers, but his will run until at least 2025. The remaining three of Luiz Diaz, Fabio Carvalho and Diogo Jota all have long-term deals, tying them to Liverpool until 2027.

Liverpool’s summer rebuild will still continue on the front line though. Carvalho is expected to be loaned out, having played just two minutes of Premier League football since the World Cup. Jota’s future has also been in contention, and he showed his quality with a brace against Leeds to end his lengthy goal drought.
