Chinese company Tronsmart is a lesser-known audio tech company that has endeavoured in the last couple of years to elevate the listening experience for audiophiles and music lovers by building a reputation for affordable yet high-quality products.
The latest device to join their illustrious roster is the Tronsmart Bang SE Portable Party Speaker. The newest member of Tronsmart’s Bang range, the SE is an epic amalgamation of the best design features from past speakers.
Like the original Bang and Bang Mini the SE utilises the trademark cylindrical body alongside the handle for transportation.
But there are a few major differences, such as the weight which is 2.08kg making it significantly lighter than its two predecessors.
What’s more is that Tronsmart has also included a strap which increases its portability. Another new design trait is the metal mesh which only sits at the front of the speakers rather than being 360 like the earlier two models.
Millions blocked from iconic iPhone app forever after 10 years in major shutdownNow this made me wonder if the SE would deliver a similarly immersive experience as the previous models. I was delighted to hear that Tronsmart hasn’t compromised on the sound quality despite the drastic design change.
The SE’s dazzling selling points are the front and side LED lights. It’s been really fun to see how Tronsmart has experimented with their lights and I feel this iteration is the best, simply due to the front two, which are powerful enough to fill an entire room, helping to elevate the party atmosphere.
The Bang SH borrows a lot from its predecessors, however, Tronsmart hasn’t rested on its laurels, making changes that allowed this to stand out from the rest.
Even though the mesh is made from a different material and doesn't cover the full speaker, this didn’t compromise the audio experience.
The SE’s overall design is definitely the most versatile out of the bunch with its amazing portability prowess and fantastic light display.
It comes with an IPX6 waterproof rating which means it can withstand rain making it ideal for taking into parks or outside sessions, as British weather is known to turn from sunshine to downpour at a moment's notice.
The Bang SE features Tronsmart’s trademark SoundPulse technology alongside 40W full-range drivers. While this may be slightly lower than the previous two models the Bang is able to pump 60W of audio goodness.
But accompanied by its wide frequency range of 60Hz – 20kHz the SE is able to play different types of music with admirable results.
I was really impressed with the overall quality and yes if you put the speakers side by side you can hear the difference but with the SoundPulse technology in play, the SE produces excellent audio.
The most brazen feature of the SE is its LED lights which can swap between three different beat-driven modes.
Google running a secret test for YouTube users – but only some people can see itThis variation is fully welcomed allowing for an enticing light show, however, the speakers don’t allow any further customisation like changing speeds, colour order and so on.
I feel that Tronsmart needs to grant consumers the same accessibility as they have done with past products.
The speaker includes a great set of input ports that include a USB A, USB C, MicroSD and an AUX.
These extra inputs allow the user to play music from a plethora of sources if they are without Wifi, making the speaker a dependable companion during outdoor trips.
The SE won’t work with the companion app which is a frustrating omission as it really restricts the obvious opportunity to customise the stunning LED lights which is a massive shame.
Tronsmart states that the SE can last between 16 - 24 hours depending on the LED display chosen. I found that while out and about I manage to find a sweet spot of 18 hours with the volume set at about ¾ from its maximum output with any light setting, which is very good, especially being outdoors.
Tronsmart Bang SE Verdict 4/5
The Bang SE is a great display of Tronsmart’s innovative craftsmanship, which sets the speaker apart from its predecessors.
The SE may have some dialled-down design features compared to other speakers in the Bang range but this doesn’t compromise its overall quality.
The ultra-light design and stellar light show make the SE one of Tronsmart’s most versatile speakers.
