Welcome to Wrexham season 2 release date and what we know so far

Fans of the popular documentary series Welcome to Wrexham are eagerly awaiting the return of the Disney+ show - and they might not have to wait much longer.

The trials and tribulations of Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s takeover at Wrexham - and subsequent success - made for great viewing and the show was a smash hit when it was released last year.

Actors Reynolds and McElhenney teamed up to buy Wrexham in November 2020 before gaining control of the club three months later. The first season of Welcome to Wrexham followed the side’s National League promotion bid in the 2021/22 season across 18 episodes.

The Red Dragons would ultimately fall short, losing 4-3 to Grimsby Town in the play-off semi finals. But on Saturday, Wrexham confirmed their promotion back to the Football League as fifth tier champions with a 3-1 victory against Boreham Wood.

When the final episode of Welcome to Wrexham season one aired in October, McElhenney confirmed that a second season would be on the way. Here’s what we know about it so far:

What could happen in it?

Season two is expected to cover Wrexham’s successful promotion bid from the National League, with the club having ended their 15-year exile from the Football League to return to League Two.

The Red Dragons have been in an enthralling title battle with Notts County - and goalkeeper Ben Foster delivered some Hollywood drama with his stoppage-time penalty save in the 3-2 win over their promotion rivals at the Racecourse Ground earlier this month.

Wrexham also enjoyed a run to the fourth round of the FA Cup this season, beating Blyth Spartans, Oldham Athletic, Farnborough and Championship side Coventry City before taking Sheffield United to a replay and losing at Bramall Lane.

The Racecourse Ground had high-profile visitors in the form of King Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, earlier this year so that too could feature in season two as well as other celebrity appearances. This summer, Wrexham play friendlies against Manchester United and Chelsea in the USA, both before the likely release date of season two.

How to watch it

You can catch up with season one of Welcome to Wrexham on Disney+, with streaming options available via their app, online and smart TV. A subscription costs £7.99 per month in the UK while international viewers can watch it on FX via Hulu with plans starting at $7.99.
